The Jersey shore was very nice last Friday as 62 players toured the outstanding Shore Gate Golf Club and there was a ton of action in all three divisions. Leading the Open division gross was PGA pro, Dan Hoban from Running Deer as he posted a 75. Dan will be hosting us next Friday at “The Deer”. Open low net went to Centerton pro, Chad Cerino who carded a three under 68. Pro and GM at White Oaks, Mitch Primas nailed a great shot on hole #17 to 4’ 3” from the flagstick and he took the closest to pin money in the Open division.

An AWGL first took place as Running Deer’s Tom Alestock captured Senior low gross honors for the fourth week in a row. His 78 beat Chris Marbaix by a single stroke. Senior low net went to Chris Dunham as the Eagle Ridge GC linkster paired a 9 handicap with a smooth 76 and the resulting 4 under par 67 was good for the win. Gene Flanagan covered his Delaware Memorial Bridge toll with a laser on hole #14 that stopped only 5” from the cup and DuPont CC player pocketed senior closest to pin $$$. Great shot making by the “Blue Hen”.

Once again, the low rounds of the day took place in the Super Senior division as Joe Russo from Wedgwood GC and Mike Owsik out of Bryn Mawr, PA each shot one under par 70’s. This great play got Mike low gross and Joe low net in the Super Seniors (ages 66 & up). These two outstanding ball strikers, both 0/scratch handicappers, made a total of 9 birdies, all of which were halved. Another highlight of the days play was the eagle 3 on #16 by Greg Van Meter from the Centerton GC. Moorestown FC’s Jon Mabry cashed out nicely with two skins…#4 & #8. The Philly guys were well represented as J.F. Byrne’s Tom Faro carved a super shot on hole #13 and cashed in on the Super Senior closest to pin contest. This is some of the best golf we have seen in recent AWGL years. Much congratulations!!!

Next week we travel to Ron Jaworski’s Running Deer GC and you’re in for a treat. The golf course is in fantastic shape and Dan Hoban is going to set it up for a very interesting and enjoyable day of golf. He requests that you stay on the mats when hitting your drivers at the practice range. Tees are provided and easily fit into the artificial turf. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Running Deer and please………..Travel Safe!
