Forty four winter leaguers teed it up at White Oaks last Friday for event #3 in the current AWGL season. In spite of some gusty breezes pushing lots of leaves around the course, some real good numbers hit the scoreboard. The prize recap and scoresheets are attached.

Leading the way in the Open division was host pro and GM at White Oaks, Mitch Primas, as he posted a one over par 72 for low gross. The money kept rolling in for the White Oaks crew as pro, Matt Scheeper paired his 7 handicap to a nice 75 and the resulting 68 was good for Open low net. Playing out of  Running Deer GC, Dave Newkirk nailed his tee shot to 16’ 2” on the 172 yard 4th hole and this excellent stroke earned him Open closest to pin cash.

Tom Alestock continued his winning ways as the Running Deer player won Senior division low gross for the third week in a row. On nines of 38 - 37 (including a triple bogey on #13) Tom topped the leaderboard with 75. Senior net went to Galloway National’s Kevin Nepveux as he shot his lowest round in the last five years….77 and with a 14 handicap his 63 was the winning total. Kevin added to his winnings with a skin….one of only three in the Seniors. Tom Faro from Philly’s J.F. Byrne and Centerton’s Steve Filbey had the other two. Senior division Closest to pin was played on  the 172 yard 8th hole and Paul Leddy from Seaview carved a great shot to 9’ 7” from the cup and it was good for the win.

Not many in the field were surprised to learn that the low round of the day was turned in by past AWGL champion, Joe Russo. The plus 1 handicapper from Wedgwood went out in 35 (one under) and came back in 36 (one over) for an even par 71 and first place in Super Senior division gross. Galloway National was very well represented as Brett Matteo lead the Super Senior net field with a 2 under 69. He won in a playoff of handicaps over Running Deer’s Ray Fuller 10 to 11. Both players finished the day with net 69’s. Running Deer was very well represented as Rocky Dare had the closest shot of the day and with his ball coming to rest only 5’ 9” from the cup on #12 he won the SS closest to pin. Great golf being played by these veteran cool weather linksters.

Looking ahead, we travel back “down the shore” to Shore Gate this coming Friday 11/15 and then to Running Deer the following Friday 11/22. Additional reminder that this season’s Christmas Scramble will be played on Monday December 16th with a 10:00AM shotgun. In this scramble you may invite a non-member to play and the annual fee is waived. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Shore Gate and please…………Travel Safe!
