We kicked off AWGL season 38 with a tournament at the Avalon Golf Club and the nicely conditioned Jersey shore course was a good test for the cool weather linksters…..not too cool with temps in the mid 60’s. The two best rounds of the day took place in the Open division with pros Cliff Still from Seaview and Golden Pheasant’s Rich Wade each carded even par 71’s. Cliff won the Open low gross and Rich paired his 6 handicap for a net winning 65 and he doubled down with a closest to pin on #17. Before the 10:00am shotgun, Rev. Cliff Still offered a very nice prayer in honor of Joe Casey and Bob Wheeler, long time AWGL members who passed away this year. They will be greatly missed.

The Senior division (ages 50 to 65) saw some more good scores hit the scoreboard as Tom Alestock, playing out Running Deer, combined nines of 39 and 35 for 74 and 1st place in the gross category. Senior low net went to Chris Dunham from Eagle Ridge GC as he matched Centerton’s Eric Stettnisch at 66 and won the playoff of handicaps 10 to 17. Luke Mangaro stuck one close on #5 for the closest to pin prize in the Seniors.

Greg Van Meter kept the good scores coming to the scoreboard with a 73 and the Centerton am took 1st place in the Super Senior gross division (ages 66 & up). A very solid round on nines of 37 & 36. SS low net went to Philly’s John Colarette with a 7 under par 64….gross 82 minus 18 handicap. Closest to pin in the Super Senior went another Philly player as Juniata’s  John Blackmon tucked one to 10” on hole #11 and pocketed the $$$. The prize recap and scoresheets are attached.

Next Friday we head to the Indian Spring GC in Marlton, NJ and the tee sheet is now open. Please text me your foursomes/groups if you are intending to play. 10:00am shotgun start. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Indian Spring and please……travel safe!
