Chistmas Scramble Avalon GC - 12/15/23

Another beautiful winter day “down the shore” and the annual “Christmas Scramble” saw 82 players tour the Avalon GC layout, producing some very good numbers on the scoreboard. We conduct scrambles in two flights…A & B…according to handicap. A flight is for handicaps 0 to 4 and B flight 5 to 9. Low gross score in the A flight was turned in by Dave West and Bob Issler on nines of 32 – 31 for an 8 under par 63. Their round featured 8 birdies and no bogies. Cliff Still and Mike Riggs paired their 4 handicap with a nice gross of 65 and the resulting 61 was good for A flight low net. They also carded 8 birdies.

The good numbers kept coming in the B flight as John Blackmon and Javier Sanchez posted a 5 under par 66 for the win in gross. The Juniata twosome made five birdies and no bogies…a very consistent round. Low net in B went to Mark Papineau and Brett Matteo as they had the best net round of the day….an 11 under par 60. The action continued in the closest to pin contests and Dave West  and Bob Issler added to their winnings with a shot on #3 that stopped closest. On #11, Mike Riggs and Cliff Still doubled down with the closest shot. The Delaware gang stepped up as Tom Walvoord and Steve Clark carved a close one on #15 and pocketed the CTP money.  The Avalon course was in beautiful condition and the crisp shore breezes made it a testy challenge. The cool weather linksters stepped up and produced some good numbers. The scoresheets and prize winner recap is attached.

We’ll be off for the next couple weeks and play will resume on January 5th 2024 at the Shore Club (formerly Wildwood CC). In a recent conversation with Harry Donahue he advised that they will be shooting another segment of Inside Golf at the Shore Club on the 5th, featuring the AWGL players. Lots of video and interviews of the contestants will take place, so bring your “A” games and look forward to a very interesting day of golf.
