The threat of rain reduced the field at The Links yesterday, but 36 teed it up and the showers held off to just light sprinkles. Leading the way in the Open division gross was Mitch Primas, pro and GM at White Oaks GC, as he won a playoff with Rich Wade from J.F. Byrne as both players posted 77’s and Mitch went 4-2 to beat Rich’s 4-3 after two extra holes. Playing out of Golden Pheasant, Dan Britt took Open net with 72 (78-6=72). Rich Wade nailed it to 9’ on hole #4 for the closest to pin victory and he added to his winnings with two skins.
The Philly crew from J.F. Byrne continued their winning ways as Sean Cooke combined nines of 36 & 40 for 76 and the got the top spot in Senior division gross. Centerton’s Sean Reinhardt applied his 13 handicap to a nice round of 79 and the resulting 66 was good for the win in Senior net. With the ball stopping 4’ 9” from the cup on hole #17 Chris Marbaix from Little Egg Harbor, NJ pocketed the Senior CTP cash.
Best round of the day took place in the Super Senior division (ages 66 & up) as Tom Faro continued the J.F. Byrne team winning streak with a 75 for first place gross. Tom was on fire with two birdies and a one under par 35 on the front side to go with a 40 on the back. Jon Mabry made three birdies on the front for 35 and the Moorestown FC linkster almost caught Faro, but slipped to 41 on the back for 76 and SS gross runner up. Super Senior net went to Jim McCarry from Sewell, NJ on the strength of his six under par 66 (80-14=66). Jon Mabry’s shot on hole #8 finished 11’ 2” from the flagstick and this was good for the win in SS closest to pin.
Looking ahead, I’ve been advised that the restaurant at Avalon closes at 3:00PM on Monday and thinking we should start the “Christmas Scramble” with a 9:30AM shotgun, instead of the regular 10:00AM. I have the tee sheet set up for a 9:30 start and need to get your teams in. For those who are bringing a non-member partner, I will need a verifiable handicap. Finally, it looks like we have some players not putting out and taking “gimmies”. As has been stated previously, you must putt everything out. If you are seen by Al, Pat or me taking a gimmie, it’s a certain DQ. Please adhere to this very basic rule. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Long Beach Island GC this Friday and layer up as it’s going to be cold. Travel Safe.
