Mother Nature was with us yesterday as we conducted event #4 of the current
AWGL season at Ron Jaworski's Running Deer Golf Club and the outstanding S.
Jersey layout provided a testy venue which allowed some very good scores.
In the Open division a two way tie for 1st gross occurred when host PGA pro,
Dan Hoban and Tim Tulio from Sakima GC turned in 74's. In the ensuing
playoff Tim's 3 on #18 beat Dan's 4 for first place. Dan took low net with
69. Three of Tim's four skins held up for a nice payout. The low round of
the day was posted in the Senior division as Greg Van Meter, playing out of
the Centerton GC combined nines of 35 - 34 for great 3 under par 69 and
first place in gross. Close behind Greg was Dave West from Exton, PA with
one under 71 and Running Deer's Tom Alestock at even par 72. Very rare that
we have three gross scores at par and below in the same division. Dave
applied his 3 handicap and the 68 was good for the win in Senior net. Gene
Flanagan also carded a net 68, but lost in a playoff of handicaps 3 to 9.
The scoring didn't slow down in the Super Senior division as Jon Mabry shot
a nice 73 for a two stroke victory in the gross category. Tied for second at
75 was Tom Dicinti from Mercer Oaks GC and Running Deer linkster, Rocky
Dare. Naz Gagliardi came across river from Bensalem CC and took SS net with
a 4 under 68. Pineland GC player, Bob Smith finished second to Naz with two
under par 70. Again, real good golf being played on an extremely testy and
challenging golf course. This might be an AWGL first as all three closest to
pin winners had shots that were closer than 4' from the flag. Seaview's
Cliff Still drilled it to 3' 2' on hole #5 for the win. On the 7th hole
Steve Wolbert's shot stopped only 2' 5" away as the Centerton player
pocketed the cash. John Sherm completed the triple play as he nailed his
shot on #16 to 3' 9". Pretty good shot making going on.
We had most of the Running Deer field sign up for Seaview next Monday 11/20
and it looks like we'll hit 70 players on the Bay course. If you are
considering playing at Seaview, please let me know so I can update the tee
sheet. If you haven't play Seaview, it's a very special experience and
definitely a "bucket list" track. Looking forward to seeing everyone "down
the shore" and please......Travel Safe!
